New Years Resolutions

I’m pretty sure we all make resolutions, plans or give ourselves targets when January 1st comes around. These might be something simple, such as going for a walk every day or going to the gym more than once or twice during the 9-month contract you’ve just signed. Maybe your resolution is more challenging, like starting a business, making a lifestyle change to get that beach body you’ve always wanted. Either way, we are very good at using the beginning of a new year to make a change.

Admittedly, I’ve not been doing very well with this blog recently. And being perfectly honest, I could round off the usual excuses and say I’ve been too busy or that I’ve lost interest and, for the most part, both of the above are true. However, I have also missed it. So one of my new year’s resolutions… yep, you guessed it. Pick the writing back up and carry on talking about one of my favourite sports.

Over the last 18 month gap of writing on my blog, there are a few things I should bring you up to speed on. There have been a few new additions to the family… no, I don’t mean kids, I mean bikes.

I now have a new hardtail that I built from scratch; a lovely Orange P7, and yes, it is actually orange this time. I also have a new road bike, a Specialized Allez Sprint, also in orange, which I plan on upgrading a few bits and pieces on it. I’ll look to do a separate blog entry for each bike to give you more details.

During the last year, I’ve spent most of my cycling time out on my mountain bikes. I’m afraid to say that the road riding has taken a bit of a back seat. Hopefully, that’ll change soon.

But the worst would have to be the lack of leg-spinning going on at the velodrome. Due to a slight global pandemic, it has been tricky to get over to the track, but I plan on rectifying this in 2022.

So my list of resolutions is growing fast, and these are just the cycling-related ones:

  1. Start writing again for Life Behind Bars
  2. Get out on the road bike a little bit more
  3. Get back to the velodrome
  4. Oh, and for some reason, I’ve decided to do RED January (Ride Every Day) to kick off the new year

I’m sure I’ve got a couple more resolutions, but we’ll see how we get on with the above first.

What are your New Year’s resolutions? What have you got planned for 2022?

Until Next time.
