Bank Holiday Ride

Recipie for a perfect ride:

  1. Clear blue skies
  2. Sunshine
  3. No wind, maybe a slight breeze
  4. Quiet roads
  5. A bike
  6. Oh, and maybe a 3 day weekend

I’m sure there are a few other things, but I can’t think of them right now. This bank holiday weekend has been a good one, despite being in lockdown.

As I mentioned in my previous post, Life in Lockdown, there are some silver linings to the current situation. One of them is being able to go out for some daily exercise; obviously that means cycling!

I managed to get out on both Friday and Saturday while the sun was out. Each day was pretty much the same route, although Saturday’s was a little longer and closer to 30 miles rather than 25.

The ride on Friday was a slight struggle. My legs were tired and having not been out on the bike much, they certainly didn’t like the hills. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I went up a hill with as much difficulty. Still, it was a good ride and just what I needed.

I didn’t have much of a plan to go back out on Saturday, but the combination of the nice weather, high temperatures and believe it or not, Instagram, convinced me that it was a good idea and that I would go a little further than Friday’s ride. My legs felt ok, better than Friday, but not as good as they could have done.

The ride on Saturday was great and saw so many cyclists out as well, which is always a bonus. I did notice that it was a tad busier than ‘normal’. Normal being the quiet, locked-down life we’ve become used to. Not sure how much social distancing was actually happening. Either way, I wasn’t fussed and was simply enjoying riding my bike.

What did you get up to over the bank holiday weekend?

Until next time.
