The Return of the Rollers… Update

I really don’t know why I do this to myself. Still, it’s been quite good fun to have something to aim for and challenge me. For those that don’t already know, just over two weeks ago, I set myself the challenge of riding at least 10 miles each day for the rest of January.

Screenshot_20190129-073028_Strava.jpgThis post is a quick update on how that’s going. So far, so good. I haven’t yet missed a day and on some days I’ve even gone over the 10 miles. Most days, this has been on the rollers. There has been one day where I’ve been outside over the weekend, so I’ve counted that as my miles for the day. As long as I can get 10 miles or more, then I’m happy.

There have been days where I’ve wished I could have just chilled out in front of the TV or stayed in bed for 10 more minutes. However, I can successfully say that I’ve managed to overcome those feelings and get on the bike and start spinning my legs.

There are a few things that I’ve noticed during the time I’ve set myself this challenge; one of which is having to think ahead and plan my week a little bit. Throughout the week I do other things such as play other sports, catch up with friends, go out for a meal or two with my wife. These things tend to happen in the evening, meaning I won’t have time to ride my bike. Therefore, it has to be done in the morning before work.

Although some days I’ve felt knackered, I haven’t felt as bad as I thought I was going to. In fact, most days I actually feel really good. I know this doesn’t make sense but I feel more energetic, fitter (luckily) and I’m sleeping well. My wife asked me what I’m going to do at the end of January, and to be honest, I don’t yet know.

Part of me would like to try and carry on, maybe if I do I could invest in Zwift? I’ve been enjoying getting on the bike every day more than I thought I would. I’m hoping that worst case scenario that, even if I don’t cycle 10 miles every day, I’ll still cycling more often.

I’m sure I’ll come to a decision soon and I’ll give you guys an update.

How are your 2019 challenges going?

Until next time.
