Raising Money For Charity

In just under 9 months time, I will be taking part in a sportive that will be 100 miles long. That’s probably not much for some but this will be the first time I have attempted to ride 100 miles in one go. I have also decided that to mark the occasion, I will raise money for a charity that’s close to my heart.

3603101946The charity is called Debra; they are a “national charity who support individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal.”

The reason, this is so close to my heart is because I have EB and I know what it’s like to live with and what people who have it have to deal with on a daily basis. I am fortunate that I don’t have a life-threatening version and that I am still able to do some of the things I love. I will admit that sometimes it restricts me but it certainly doesn’t rule my life.

The ride I’m taking part in is called Ride Yorkshire and it’s going to be in and around the Yorkshire Dales so there will be plenty of climbing involved. In fact, there will be over 5600 ft of climbing which I think will be the most I’ve climbed in one ride. Can’t wait!

So the plan from here is to train and train and maybe train a little bit more. I’m even going to try and do at least one 100 mile ride before the actual event. Which would be the first time of doing the distance beforehand. I won’t be cycling alone as my good friend and fellow road cyclist, Will, is going to be doing it with me. Hopefully, we’ll both make it to the end.

If anyone wants to support me and the charity, Debra, I will leave a link to my JustGiving page at the end of this post and on the menu bar of my site. Any and all donations, no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated. I will also leave a link to the Debra website if you’d like to know more about the charity and EB.

My target is going to be £500 and as an extra incentive, if I reach my target I will also shave my legs and become a “true” cyclist. If this happens, I will, of course, provide photographic evidence and share it with you all.

I will keep you up to date with all of my training and how it’s going. I’m hoping that it’ll all go smoothly, but you never can tell.

Thank you so much.
